*Frogs were a common theme on Egyptian lamps, as they were sacred to the Ancient Egyptians… when the frogs came this meant that the Nile was flooding and soon the crops would be irrigated. A season without frogs meant agricultural devastation, so lighting these lamps was thought to be an offering to the frogs, bringing upon a good and bountiful harvest.

All my Egyptian artifacts were legally exported from Egypt prior to the 1970 UNESCO treaty, and my policies comply with all international trade laws regarding antiquities. Isis on a Roman Lamp!

With a rounded body, small loop handle, and short spout which still shows charring from use in antiquity! The base is impressed with a maker’s hard depicting three grain ears. Old collection tag on underside. See Bailey Q2021 and Loeschcke Type VIII for similar variants. L: 3 3/4”. Handle repaired from 2-3 pieces, otherwise intact! Ex Ventura County private collection; ex Hindman. This is one I definitely should have kept for my own collection but the photos turned out so nice I thought I’d offer it to you for a short time (before I change my mind). #AR3299: $950
