Authentic Ancient Egyptian Mummy-Masks

All my Egyptian artifacts were legally exported from Egypt prior to the 1970 UNESCO treaty, and my policies comply with all international trade laws regarding antiquities. Every item is legally and ethically acquired, coming from old American and European collections, museum deaccessions and auctions. Provenance is not always listed in every item description due to restricted space, but is provided on the certificate of authenticity that accompanies each item. Enjoy!

Ancient Egypt. Greco-Roman period, c. 1st Century BC - 1st Century AD. A lovely fragment from a stucco mask. The stucco fragment was once part of a burial mask, the forehead above the left eye and part of the hair and wreath still preserved with remnants of original paint. The underside of of this mask was apparently pressed upon the face of the deceased to form fit. Not to be morbid, but I truly appreciate every antiquity I have the honor of passing through my hands… I noticed this feature and placed it over my left brow and it all but "locked in place". I must say I closed my eyes and felt like the modern world whooshed away for a moment. Quite a moment. A testament to the detail the ancients took while preparing these funerary furnishings. This little gem measures 3 3/8" x 3 1/4". I'm kind of resistant to let it go, honestly. Ex Oxford, UK private collection. #AE3205: $575 SOLD

Ancient Egypt, Late Period, 664-535 BC. A small collection of fantastic mummy-bead masks. In colors of bright blue, green, yellow, black, white and red. High quality ancient beads, re-strung into original configuration to reveal a beautiful and vibrant face. The mask, representing the face of the deceased, would have been attached to the wrappings of the mummy over the facial area, as shown in the photo of an example at left. It depicts the deceased wearing the beard of Osiris, a symbol of his/her hope for reincarnation.

This fantastic mask (shown below) was legally exported from Egypt in the early 1960's during a period when the Egyptian government was actually auctioning off tombs full of artifacts to the highest bidder, to be removed and exported at will. It then made its way legally through collections and auctions within the United States, until I was fortunate enough to purchase it back in 2006.
