and fantasy figural detail, having pointed and flared cuffs, five articulated metacarpal plates, and articulated scaled fingers
and thumb defenses. Approximate of one flattened out, h. 5.5", w. 7", d. 14.75". Condition: One gauntlet dented /
bent with thumb detached; both with scattered oxidation, wear to leather and rubbing to engraving; not all rivets present.

Medieval Italy. Late 16th century AD. Excellent Italian "Pisan" style gauntlet. Medieval knight's hand armor. Etched with designs and roped panels, outer edge with file roped bead. Mostly intact, with some age perforations, and the small finger pieces missing, common for armor such as this. Still held together by the original rivets, some original leather joints on the knuckles. Great grey patina. 266 mm (10 1/2") long. Etched designs depicting various animals including several birds and other figures around the base, down the wrists and across the flexible hand piece. Magnificent!

Massive and heavy! Measures 9 1/4" x 4 1/4" (23.5 mm x 10.7 mm and weighs over 2 pounds! Professionally conserved, with reddish to steely surfaces, the wide blade still sharp. From the Battle of Nordlingen, September 6, 1634 at Nordlingen, Germany. 27mm (1 1/16") diameter, weighs 87.58 grams. From the shipwreck of the HMS Colossus, sunk in 1798 off the Scilly Isles, southwest of England. Excellent large iron grapeshot (basically a small iron cannonball). Well-preserved, its rusty surfaces stabilized inside a clear coating. 1 3/8" diameter. The Colossus was home-bound from the Mediterranean, loaded with wounded soldiers. She anchored at the Isles of Scilly during a severe storm but was torn away and sunk. Salvaged by Roland Morris in the 1960's and 1970's. With certificate from the salvagers. #DS71957: $499 SOLD

A quillon dagger, with central fuller and ricasso with paired outer grooves, and long pommel with linear ribs. In excavated condition, the dagger measures 31 cm (12 1.4") long. Included with it is an iron bar frame from a purse found alongside it. Period art depicts daggers such as this tucked behind a purse in the belt. One of the most amazing piece's I've had... a Medieval German gauntlet! Steel left-hand gauntlet / hand armor. Dates from c. 1580-1620 AD. Brightly-polished steel (light rust on the inside) with brass rivets. Missing all but the top knuckle of four of the fingers and thumb (held on by leather strips). With rounded base and tapering flat blade, the cut-out interior of which with four joined circles, long narrow tang a back. Made for flammable material to be wrapped inside and shot into buildings during a siege. L: 5 1/2" (14 cm). Intact with a stable oxide patina. Ex Los Angeles private collection.
