A lovely Inca zoomorphic vessel from Peru, ca. 1300 - 1500 AD. It measures 7 1/2 in x 8 in (19 x 20.4 cm) and depicts a captured doe. She is portrayed with her legs bound together and the head arched over her back; sculpted with great artistic sensitivity. The deer hunt was an important ritual for Andean cultures and is frequently documented on painted vessels going back into the early Moche periods. In excellent condition, with detailed head and nicely burnished surfaces. A very pleasing example with light deposits. From the collection of Pamela Llerena - Miami, FL, By descent, from the estate of Erika Roman - Santa Cruz, CA (1985). * Stand not included, only for photography purposes. Ask me about an alternate base. #A36270C: $650 SOLD
