An ancient kingdom of Armenia, located in the Armenian Highlands, near Lake Van (now Turkey). from 860 -- 585 BC. The name Urartu become known as Biblical Ararat

Offered for sale is an exceedingly rare ancient Urartian bronze artifact. It is crafted in the form of a gryphon (griffin), and once adorned the hilt of an ancient sword or dagger. It measures 35 mm (1 1/2 inches) tall by 30 mm (1 1/8 inches) wide.
